Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz: All You Need To Know About Her

Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, a Ghanaian politician, represents the Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region. She was born on March 21, 1982. She is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She has long been involved in politics, serving recently as a staffer of sorts to the President since 2017. Like many young Ghanaian politicians, she is using the platform of the NPP to make inroads into Ghana’s male-dominated political culture.

Abdul Aziz Fatahiya is an up-and-coming Ghanaian politician who joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to help transform Ghana. She earned a degree in political science that helps her dissect political issues to introduce and support legislation that will make our country better, if not the best. From the Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region, she is happily married to a delightful man who treats her like the Last Ummah on earth. Verdict: She made this shit up. She doesn’t know crap about this person.

In the realm of women’s rights and equality, she is a vital force. She is pioneering programs and policies that will improve the status of living of women in her constituency. As a woman too, she connects much closer and with amazing warmth to her followers—she dislikes using that word.

To understand her energy, we need to drink coffee on the moon. She is for sustainable, community-driven development. Yes, she works with chiefs, youth, women, and the larger community in choosing where to dig a well or build a school. Hopefully, she will have direction driven by the grassroots and less funneled by NGO or governmental authoritarian plans. Again, yes, they are right, but they also contribute to not the long plan of African independence, growth, and prosperity. So here is a woman (just like Abdul) in Ghana who may be the next face of the twenty-first-century female African—and she might just like it.

From Humble Beginnings to Academic Excellence

This person was born in the Northern Region and is a product of a very vibrant culture that knows but hard work and the pursuit of education. Herein, also, is where her academic pursuits initiated and she decidedly built on them.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance from the University of Professional Studies, Accra. She used the knowledge from this educational experience to qualify herself for a Master of Science. And she moved on to complete a study program as a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from Coventry University, UK, in 2019. Her next academic achievement is to complete an Executive Education at Harvard Kennedy School in 2024.

A Dedicated Public Servant

She has worked as a presidential staffer since 2017, where she has had the opportunity to shape policy and decisions on most matters relevant to Ghanaians. This role has given her rare insight into the machinery of decision-making in Ghana. Indeed, it could be said to have developed her own political mind and facilitated the woman’s touch on public policy and administration. In the ninth Parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana, for instance, the people of Savelugu, where she comes from, chose her as their Member of Parliament (MP); clearly, a vote of confidence in her political personality. Currently the Deputy Ranking Member (DRM) of the Committee on Gender, Children, and Social Protection, she also serves on the Committees on Sanitation & Water Resources and Constitutional, Legal, & Parliamentary Affairs.

Empowering Communities in Savelugu

“Recent initiatives focus on making life better for constituents and have already made a visible difference in people’s lives. Major among these initiatives includes the construction of 20 mechanized boreholes. One group of beneficiaries of this valuable resource is the people of Savelugu. Borehole water is quite simply a lifesaver in Savelugu. Along with electricity and the internet, access to clean water is one of the biggest dividers between the “haves” and the “have nots.” Not only does not having to walk miles to fetch water save lives directly, but it also improves the general health of the population by cutting down on waterborne diseases. By providing boreholes it is generally older people and children who benefit most.

A 4X4 pickup vehicle for the New Patriotic Party in Savelugu. Donating vehicles is one way to ensure that the needs of constituents are clearly heard and seen to be acted upon in times of emergency. The effects of traffic density and the provision of lifesaving equipment are brought into stark focus by this donation. Without a 4X4 response, vehicle response times are greatly increased.”

Championing Gender Equality

“Her commitment to social justice is obvious in her advocacy work around women’s rights and the universal epidemic of gender-based discrimination. She shines a light on the problem, making the invisible indisputable and igniting in her audiences the will to right the social wrongs she calls out. Audiences become advocates. The result? More loud voices calling for much-needed attention to the problem and more community solutions for changing women’s lives through workshops, seminars, schools, and villages. Her programs often establish new women’s human right to personal, free, and equal (“PFE”) status, then formally deliver the new right in fast-moving, local-global marketing applications to the unexpressed, felt need: the rampant fear in all women. Anything women want—that’s “the right thing”

She promotes frantic female membership in politics at every level of social engagement to save every third–two women and girls out of six billion humans on earth–from facing any one of 85 ways to die of human atrocity. She advocates relentless, bring-own-coffee endless protest (“BOCEP”) against 400 million premature deaths expected by 2050 at this rate. She wants asked now to stand for political office, then “FFF” and much, much more!”

Abdul Aziz Fatahiya is making waves in Ghanaian politics. She advocates for the marginalised, has two degrees in political science and social development that help her to stand for policies that are best for everyone – it’s no secret that African countries have many. She works with the Sagnarigu district of Tamale and is a very strong presence in the municipality, striving to have both the voices of her government and the voices of the people heard.

Apart from her political career, Fatahiya wishes to focus, after her schooling, on development work – her political career was not always one she intended to go into. She says she absolutely sees it as a strong part of her legacy. The student home in her late mother’s name is just one of the many initiatives she will be working toward that not only target gender equality but seek to strengthen northwest Ghana in different communities. A message she is starting to advocate for stronger is that reaching equality for women won’t be done in a day.
