He is the First National Organizing Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (I.N.C.), Ijaw Nation’s main organization. During the term of Bayelsa State’s first executive governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, he was named executive secretary of the Centre for Youth Development. He was appointed as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports of Bayelsa State during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. Diri was a member of the governing council at the University of Maiduguri from 2000 until 2012.

In 2012, he was also the head of Bayelsa State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Disciplinary Council.
