Gisele Bündchen: Age, Children & Facts

Gisele Bündchen or Giselle Bündchen (born July 20, 1980) is a Brazilian model and occasional film actress, who became internationally known in the late 1990s. She was the world’s highest-paid model during each year of the 2000s (decade). In 2012, she had an estimated net worth of US$386 million.

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen is the youngest of five siblings and entered the world five minutes ahead of her fraternal twin sister on July 20, 1980. People taunted her for her height and weight but these would later give her an advantage in the modeling industry.

Bündchen was approached by a modeling agent while waiting in line at a burger joint. After she had some reservations, the young model gave modeling a try. She got her start working in Brazil, and got her start at the fashion show during New York City’s fashion week in 1996.

The following year, she made the move to New York City. A decade ago, one of Bündchen’s earliest big breaks occurred, when fashion designer Alexander McQueen put her in his runway show. And he remained a close friend until his death in 2010.

Bündchen met New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during her first season as a spokesperson for Victoria’s Secret lingerie company, where they remain spokesmodels together. They married in 2009 after nine years together. That same year, they welcomed their daughter Vivian Lake into the world.

Career Highlights

Since the late 1990s, Gisele Bündchen has become one of the world’s top models, shooting on the covers of fashion magazines such as Vogue and many other top designers like Dolce & Gabbana. Bündchen, after landing a lucrative $25 million contract with Victoria’s Secret in 2000, was named the most beautiful girl in the world by Rolling Stone in 2000.

Gisele Bündchen had become the highest-paid model in the world in 2004, according to Forbes magazine. The actress made an unsuccessful foray into films, with a minor appearance in the 2004 comedy flop, Taxi with Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon. Two years after the Gigli debacle, she did better, scoring a small role in the fashion dramedy, The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

While she ended her modeling deal with Victoria’s Secret in 2007, she remained a hot property in the modeling world. Thus far, Gisele Bundchen has beaten out, time and time again, such other famous models as Heidi Klum, due in large part to the amount of energy she is willing to devote to work.

However, Gisele Bündchen does find herself, on occasion, in a bit of a quagmire. One of those instances happened when she took on a small but risque series of TV commercials for the Brazilian market. Wearing nothing but lingerie, the supermodel posed in these risque advertisements, suggesting that ladies may want to use their sexuality to solve various personal crises.

A women’s interest agency has urged the marketers of the lingerie line to recall the offending ads, insisting that the campaign promotes the pernicious stereotypes of women as sexual objects (quoted by Marie Claire).
In 2012, again she broke waves by appearing nude in Vogue Paris magazine, demonstrating that she was one of the sexiest models working today.

Life and Husband

Gisele Bündchen first child, Benjamin Rein Brady, was born in 2009 after she married professional football player Tom Brady, a former girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio. This is not a speech about how great the deceased was, but rather an opportunity for family and friends to reflect on their relationship with him or her.

Additionally, Bündchen supports a number of charities and causes. Some of the proceeds of Gisele Bündchen sandals go to a Brazilian rainforest. Her focus in her home state of Rio Grande do Sul has been water conservation and environmental restoration since 2008.
