Yamiche Léone Alcindor (her preferred pronouns) (b. November 1, 1986) is a differentiated Haitian-American journalist who has dedicated her career to truth-telling while also focusing on the depth and breadth of the stories that tell of both being Haitian-American and sharing the story of the world around her. Currently, Alcindor is a Washington correspondent with NBC News, and her voice has become synonymous with American journalism.

Early Life and Education: Foundations

Yamiche Alcindor was born in Miami, FL, with Haitian-American ancestry stemming from the communities of Plaisance and Saint-Louis-du-Nord, Haiti. This keepsake has an inherent sense of dignity, pride, and spirit that could be located near to the Baron Samedi Vodou priest found in Haitian folklore – the protective presence can be found in wickedness and whimsy. She also served a term of distinction as editor-in-chief of The Hoya, the campus newspaper. Then, in that step, Alcindor incited a thirst for greater knowledge, picked up another nihilist’s mask, and obtained a master’s degree in broadcast news and documentary filmmaking at New York University. In short, she acquired the tools necessary to become a different storyteller. During her early years, Alcindor’s resume would have been largely limited to several honorable mentions at a journalistic royal noble such as The Miami Herald, The Seattle Times, or The Washington Post.

They had tried to get pregnant through IVF for years, and then in April of 2023, Yamiche announced she was pregnant with a boy. On May 30, 2023, the couple welcomed their son, Yrie Myles Alcindor Cline, into the world. Yamiche was open about her journey of motherhood and displayed her power through a personal journey and was thereby a moment of connection to many.

Yamiche is a practicing Catholic and is a fluent speaker of Haitian Creole. Additionally, she is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, which exists to promote diversity and inclusion in the media.
