Johnnie was born on September 5, 1986, in Kaneshie, a lively suburb of Accra, the son of the late ADP Johnnie Beresford Babatunde Hughein, former head of industries at the Ghana Prisons Service, and Madam Comfort. Growing up with his siblings, including his brother, Heward Rutherford Hughes, the two would go on to find their own legacies; Hughes helped lay the groundwork for their education and leadership.

Johnnie attended Flori Creche, then continued on to St. Nicholas Preparatory School, and eventually Kaneshie Anglican JHS. He completed his senior high studies at Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School (HOTCASS) and spent his time there doing science and leadership as the Compound Prefect and SRC Vice President. Educated at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, with a degree of honor, and also received training in Advanced Television Production from a master class in presenters and producers organized by the British Council. He also has certificates from the Institute of Commercial Management in the UK.

Johnnie is married to Regina Yaa Biamah Hughes, a Ghanaian from the Bono Region. They married on 7 July 2018 and have a son, Godson Hughes.

Media Career

Johnnie started his media career in 2011 as a morning show host at Pravda Radio 93.5 (now Vision One FM). After a short while, he was very quickly selected to host the Good Life Game Show on Viasat One TV from 2012 to 2014. Johnnie then joined TV Africa to host the Rundown Show and Daybreak Africa. The greatest achievement of his career so far is being discovered by Media General Limited in 2015, where he is currently employed.
