Chidinma has an estimated net worth of around $2.8 million as of 2025. This makes her one of the richest female musicians in Nigeria.
BIOGRAPHY
Chidinma Ekile, recognized as one of Nigeria’s most adored singers, actresses, songwriter and performers, was born on May 2nd, 1991, in Ketu Kosofe, Lagos State, Nigeria. She is the sixth child of seven in a family traced to Imo State. Chidinma grew up in a lifetime of discipline that naturally fostered her love for music, which began at an early age, starting probably around six. By the age of ten, she began singing in the church choir. Therefore, as Chidinma grew up in a home environment not only of discipline but also of music, her passion for music was supported.
Although Chidinma planned to study and earn a degree in mass communication, things changed quickly after she graduated with a Sociology degree from the University of Lagos, which expressed her strong will. Instead of enrolling in a university, she rather chose to drop out to pursue her dream of advancing in the competition while boldly standing in line to participate in the Project Fame West Africa audition process.
PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA: A FRESH START
Chidinma’s life changed forever in 2010 as she auditioned for the third season of Project Fame West Africa, a widely known music reality television series sponsored by MTN. During the audition process, she impressed audiences with her vocal ability and onstage confidence. She surprisingly won the show. Project Fame was so impactful in Chidinma’s life that it included a cash payout of ₦2.5 million as well as a car and the direction of one of Nigeria’s megastars.
Chidinma’s experience on Project Fame showcased the fruits of hard work and determination through transformational effort, as she significantly developed as a singer during the course of the competition. The show acted as a springboard to her career and transitioned Chidinma from a mere business promoter to a household name in the Nigerian music industry.
MUSICAL BREAKTHROUGHS AND ALBUMS
Chidinma wasted no time in securing her niche after winning Project Fame. In 2011, she released her debut single, “Jankoliko,” featuring Sound Sultan. Sound Sultan performed a cameo in the official music video for the single, which stirred relative anticipation for a debut. The single was well received. Later that year, she released her breakout hit “Kedike” that thrust her into the limelight and earned her the nickname “Miss Kedike.” Chidinma would later solidify her success with the song when she won Best Female West African Act at the Kora awards in 2012.
Chidinma’s 2012 self-titled debut album, Chidinma, proved her versatility in melodious delivery and songwriting ability across multiple genres of Afrobeat, R&B, and highlife music. The album included the hits “Jankoliko,” “Carry You Go,” and “Run Dia Mouth.” The subsequently released singles “Emi Ni Baller,” “Oh Baby (You & I),” and “Fallen in Love” portrayed her ability to evolve and modernize while being respectfully African.
ACTING CAREER
Chidinma continued to expand her creative expression by entering into Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, in 2017, where she starred as an actress in Kunle Afolayan’s cross-cultural film The Bridge. Although it was her first acting role, her performance continues to showcase the depth of her versatility and that her talents can translate beyond the music industry.
TRANSITION INTO GOSPEL
In 2021, Chidinma surprised her fans with the news that she would be transitioning from secular to Gospel music. The decision to become a gospel artist, on her birthday at 30 years of age, cemented a transition in her professional career for her. When asked, she said the decision came from her finding a spiritual retreat using prayer and fasting. Her first debut gospel single, “Jehovah Overdo,” performed by the creator for the first time, wound up being a huge success with the audience for its message and performance. She followed this by turning her gospel albums New Season (Deluxe) (2021) and Psalm 16 (2022) out to be popular and establish herself as a gospel artist while being a minister of music. Her growth as an artist has been astonishing and is noted as taking a courageous step that aligned with her shifting values to her spiritual growth.
PERSONAL LIFE
Chidinma is also very secretive about her personal life, admitting that this is around her honesty and adds interest to her public persona. She has dated a few artists (Flavour and Kizz Daniel), pretentiously saying that she is single, and to the best of my knowledge no children. For now, she is only focused on music and ministry, while the fans are still curious about her mystery and the amazing relationship to her personal charm.
