Fred’ early life and Family Background
Fred Amugi was born on 5th November, 1948, in Kaneshie, Accra but he hails from Ga-Mashie, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
His father was an employee of Ghana’s Ministry of Works and Housing, and as a result, his family’s frequent relocation exposed young Fred to many more areas and cultures, including the Western, Central, and Ashanti Regions.
Fred comes from a family of nine children (seven girls and two boys), and he is third in line. Even though it was difficult growing up in such a large family, Fred’s upbringing gave him traits that would serve him in good stead for the remainder of his life.

Fred Amugi has been married since 1983. Fred and his wife have had two children together. Fred lost his only daughter to cancer, which was really painful to the family. Nevertheless, Fred is a very good husband and father, maintaining close family ties despite that horrible loss.

Fred Amugi completed Form 5 at Nungua Senior High School. He has not gone on to higher education, although he was very interested in arts since high school; about a year before he graduated high school, he started acting in television theater after his literature teacher discovered that Fred had a flair for acting and urged him to try it as a career.
