Canadian CCM artist Steph Carse recently released the official music video for “Break Every Chain.” He co-directed it with Chris Metts, and it’s not your typical feel‑good clip. Instead, the video bravely tackles some of the toughest issues facing society today—drug addiction, depression, bullying, suicide, and sex trafficking. As someone who’s spent years helping people navigate their struggles, I find it powerful when artists use their platforms to shine light into dark corners.
“One thing I wanted to show very clearly is that we are not alone,” Carse explained when discussing the video. “We are all together in this, and with the help of one another and through Christ, we can break every chain.”
Doesn’t that resonate? Many of my clients say they’ve felt isolated in their battles with addiction or depression. Hearing a musician openly affirm that support exists can feel like a lifeline. Carse even shared that his own brother struggled with substances—including drugs, alcohol and cigarettes—for most of his life, and yet found “genuine victory and freedom through Christ”. His personal connection to the subject adds authenticity and hope.
